Reasons to Re-Watch a Movie

After upwards of ten minutes of deliberation, I have come up with this exhaustive list of the reasons people feel compelled to watch a movie more than once:

1. Tradition. Some families always watch Miracle on 34th Street at Christmas, others watch It’s a Wonderful Life, etc.

2. Bonding. It’s important to prove to your friends that you, too, know all the words to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

3. Details. It takes three viewings before you notice that a marquee in the background of Fight Club lists Seven Years in Tibet.

4. Boom mics. There’s nothing like the ego surge you get when you catch a glimpse of a boom mic in a staid period piece.

5. Before they were stars/before you knew they were stars. As in, “Josh Brolin was the older brother from Goonies!??”

6. Really liking it. Also, sometimes you just really like a movie and want to watch it again.

Under the Sun

Before I begin posting in earnest, I should acknowledge that on the Internet, as in life, I’m rarely the first person to have a good idea. I’m in good company, though, as Daryl Cagle’s Professional Cartoonist Index makes clear on a weekly basis.  (As one example, note the similarities between the Palin-Tina Fey cartoons.) Some of my ideas may seem familiar precisely because they’re downright ordinary. I’ll point out where I have an outside influence, though, and I’ll bask in my own brilliance when (I think) I’m first.

What is RedHairing?

Somewhat predictably, RedHairing is from a redhead who loves forced puns. My posts will probably include my main interests–agonizing over graduate/law school, the wonders of the internet, language, number-crunching–but I won’t paint myself into a corner. I may also include a sporadically updated webcomic of questionable appeal.

Hello, world!

Perhaps more realistically at this point: Hello, web crawlers! Learn more about me.
